How to ask them

Don't work through the list. Pick a group that fits the evening, take turns choosing, and let either of you pass without explaining. Ten good minutes on one question beat thirty questions in a row.

Answer the question you asked, too. A question only one person has to answer feels like an interview.

When a question is easier to answer in private

Some things are hard to say across a table, especially wishes: what you'd like to try, where you'd like to go, what you'd like more of. For those, a yes/no/maybe list works better than a question. You each answer alone, and only the overlap is shown.

Date Night does that for plans and rituals, and the After Dark list for adults. If you'd rather read ideas than answer questions, here are 52 date night ideas.

Questions people ask

What are good questions to ask your partner?
Questions with a specific answer work best: what was the best part of your week, when do you feel closest to me, what should we stop postponing. Avoid questions that can be answered with yes or no.
What are deep questions for couples?
Ones about needs and worries rather than opinions: what do you need more of from me right now, what have you stopped asking me for, how do you like to be comforted after a bad day.
How many questions should we do in one evening?
Fewer than you think. Three to five questions that turn into conversations are a full evening.
